Rebirth is a painting that tells the life story of the artist Edis One. In this piece, the artist returns to materials he worked with years ago, like cork and tiles, while also incorporating posters taken from the streets into his studio.
In this new New Born project, not only are there these innovations, but the artist has also started painting with acrylic paint. Until now, all the paintings had been done with spray paint, using mixed media as well.
This artwork represents a new beginning for our planet, following its complete extinction. The base is made from black cork agglomerate, where the artist adheres the posters and paints the figure of an elderly man with the phrase “there is still hope.” This figure represents the past, but also the hope for a better future for our planet.
Next, there is a young boy in an astronaut suit, symbolizing the future of all generations and a new beginning for planet Earth.
The artwork is completed with beige cork and tiles arranged to create a torn effect within the piece. Adding movement to the artwork, the broken tiles represent extinction. These tiles are unique, with a distinct pattern and a central symbol. This symbol, also painted on the side of the piece, is intended to represent the painting’s title iconically.
Each painting will have an associated symbol and a unique tile pattern. When purchasing this piece, you will receive a frame with a tile signed by the artist. You can view images below.
