EXTINCTION 2.0 > A NEW BEGINNING
The Extinction Art Project was born in 2018, created by artist Edis One, with a clear objective: to use the power of Street Art to raise awareness and alert society to one of the greatest threats of our time – the mass extinction of species. Through urban murals and artistic interventions, Extinction began by drawing attention to the urgent need to preserve biodiversity and natural balance, using the city as a canvas to tell the story of the environmental devastation we face.
In its first four years, the project grew and developed its own identity, creating communication channels, social media platforms, and a website that helped spread its message. With increasing impact, Extinction established itself as a platform for reflection and action through art.
Now, in 2024, Extinction 2.0: NEW BORN emerges, a new phase marking the rebirth of the project. Inspired by a hypothetical scenario where the world, as we know it, has no solution left and everything we had has been lost, NEW BORN emerges as a call to start over. It is a story of rebirth, where humanity and nature are given the chance to begin anew, learning from the mistakes of the past.
In this new phase, Extinction evolves not only in its message but also in its artistic techniques. Materials such as cork and tiles, symbols of Portuguese culture and nature’s resilience, now play a central role in the artworks, reflecting the need for balance between humans and the environment. Additionally, posters torn from the streets, transferred to canvases, bring with them the marks of urban decay but also resilience. Each piece is a unique work that challenges us to reflect on what remains when everything is lost, and how we can rebuild a better future.
The future of Extinction is focused on expanding the narrative of rebirth beyond paintings and murals. NEW BORN is a vision of hope, an invitation to rethink our relationship with the planet. Through exhibitions, urban interventions, and international collaborations, Extinction aims to continue raising awareness and provoking real change.
The story now being told is one of renewal. Where there was once destruction, there is now space for growth. Where street art once served as a warning, it now emerges as a symbol of resilience and regeneration. The message remains clear: nature is reborn, and it is up to us to learn to live in harmony with it.
With NEW BORN, the goal is to do more than just raise awareness – it is to inspire a new beginning. An artistic movement that invites action and reconnection with nature, which adapts and is reborn, even after extinction.
